The mytiliculture is one of the most important aquaculture in the world, however, little is known on the mussel immune system, which plays a critical role in case of infectious diseases. Like all the other invertebrates, our model, the Mediterranean mussel Mytilus galloprovincialis, possesses only an innate immune system considered to be primitive and non-specific. In the present study, our results showed that the mussel immune system (i) is capable of responding differently to a variety of stimulations, suggesting a specific recognition process; (ii) reacts differently according to the geographic origin of the animals, showing an adaptation to their own environment; (iii) is influenced by the season, which explains the seasonal mortalities; (iv) presents... |

In natural population of the Pacific cupped oyster, there are differences between allelic and genotypic frequencies for the A and B amylase genes. Set up a synthetical population of C. gigas, in which whole alleles and genotypes are better represented than in wild population, was done. An investigation links between trophic conditions applied during larvae developpment (in nursery), allelic frequencies for both amylase genes, oyster's individual waight and by the selectivity of summer mortalities during their exposition on the estran has been done. As a result, following facts have been observed : - On one side, an influence of the trophic condition applied during the larvae development on genotypic frequencies of the gene B of the amylase - On the other... |

Since 1991, high mortality rates of larvae and juveniles of different bivalve mollusc species associated with herpesvirus infections have been reported in different countries. The aim of this study was to determine if more than one helpesvirus species was responsible for these infections or just one species exhibiting polymorphism. The investigations concentrated on the analysis of the virus genome, studies of virus transmission in different mollusc species and on the potential role of bivalve adults in the occurrence of infections. The analysis of various target sequences within the virus genome present in infected larvae samples demonstrated the presence of polymorphism. More notably a variant of the virus was identified and the variation appears... |

Abnormal massive mortalities of oysters Crassostrea gigas during the estival period are a phenonmenon described in the literature since forty years. A certain number of studies show that it could exist a genectic base with these mortalities. In front of the economic interest that the oyster production in France represents, IFREMER set up program MOREST, gathering the fiels of physiology, pathology and the genetics. This study in interested in rare genotypes, determined by PCR-RFLP, presenting three bands for one or two A and B amylase genes, met in the families MOREST and the polymorphic population for amylase genes, made up starting from crossing of the hierarchical type. It aims at making a follow-up of the segregation of the alleles at the progeny, as... |
